...from the Claustopus!
Here's my contribution to this week's Art Jumble theme, "Street Fighter." I was quite bummed out to have missed the open call for Udon's Street Fighter tribute book. Always the last to hear, I guess. So I thought I'd make an effort to recapture a bit of nostalgia for my own with this piece.
And thought I'd share a bit of the process with the initial sketch...
... and final inks.
Found this spot illo that I did earlier this year while archiving my hard drive. How did December arrive so fast? Anyhoo, the piece was for D Magazine for an article about auditioning in the theater scene.
This was the initial sketch that was later dropped for a more uncluttered feel.
A little something I cooked up for this week's Art Jumble theme.
Feels like ages since I've done something for Illustration Friday. Let's see if I can at least do one more before the end of the year.

Here's a few more illustrations from the surf alarm widget. We had also wanted to add a snow condition version but ran out of time.
Last weekend I attended Flash Camp, a barcamp-style developer event held at Adobe in San Francisco. We were introduced to Flash CS4 and all it's nifty new features.
During the 3-day event, we were tasked to create an app that utilized any of the new Flash functionalities. We were generously fed 3 times a day including, what seemed to be, a never ending supply of coffee and beer. By the end of the event, about 30 apps were created and then judged by a team of Adobe developers.
I had the fortune of working with Matthieu Avignon and Demian Borba to create a Surf Alarm Widget. It was an alarm clock set to wake you up at a specified time and alert you to whether the surf was worthy of getting up for. The data was pulled from various updated websites and the animation and music would correspond to the quality of the waves.
Out of ten categories, ranging from "Best Game" to "Most Useful," we won "Coolest App," much to our surprise. It was a truly overwhelming experience. Now I'm off to make some truly cracked out cartoons with my new found knowledge.
I came home from a long day at work and found this little gem waiting for me in my mailbox. My friend, Alberto Ruiz, has out done himself once again with "Eye Candy From Strangers," a collection of pinups by artists form all over the world. I was very fortunate to be a part of this awesome undertaking, and the end result is truly an overdose for the eyes.
For more info and samples head on over >here<. It's a two volume set, btw. So there's no better time to empty that bank account.
Nightwing and Starfire, the good ol' days.
