Here's my contribution to this week's Art Jumble theme, "Street Fighter." I was quite bummed out to have missed the open call for Udon's Street Fighter tribute book. Always the last to hear, I guess. So I thought I'd make an effort to recapture a bit of nostalgia for my own with this piece.

Found this spot illo that I did earlier this year while archiving my hard drive. How did December arrive so fast? Anyhoo, the piece was for D Magazine for an article about auditioning in the theater scene.

This was the initial sketch that was later dropped for a more uncluttered feel.

I dig the oh so sexy shape of cassette tapes. It's a nostalgia thing.

Anyhoo, I've been tagged by my fellow artist extraordinaire, Mr. Shum, to post seven random facts about myself and pass it on to seven more. So here goes:

01. As a kid, I imagined wind propellers to be tombstones for dead planes.
02. Over-analyzing where milk comes from made me not want to drink it anymore.
03. My nails grow extremely fast, forcing me to conclude that I am part werewolf.
04. In my opinion, drinking water from a straw significantly tastes different than drinking the same water without a straw.
05. I emphasize my statements to my wife in the form of a spontaneous dance.
06. One of my pet peeves are people who refer to Kill Bill Vol.2 as a sequel. It's one movie broken into two parts, people!
07. I think giant, talking babies are frightening.

Flash Experimentation: 01



So I've finally taken a big ol' proverbial bite out of the big ol' proverbial bullet. This will be my new sub-category of random experiments as I refresh my relationships with my old friends Mr. Animation and Mr. Flash. It's been quite the while, my friends.

this one time, at flash camp...

Last weekend I attended Flash Camp, a barcamp-style developer event held at Adobe in San Francisco. We were introduced to Flash CS4 and all it's nifty new features.

During the 3-day event, we were tasked to create an app that utilized any of the new Flash functionalities. We were generously fed 3 times a day including, what seemed to be, a never ending supply of coffee and beer. By the end of the event, about 30 apps were created and then judged by a team of Adobe developers.

I had the fortune of working with Matthieu Avignon and Demian Borba to create a Surf Alarm Widget. It was an alarm clock set to wake you up at a specified time and alert you to whether the surf was worthy of getting up for. The data was pulled from various updated websites and the animation and music would correspond to the quality of the waves.

Out of ten categories, ranging from "Best Game" to "Most Useful," we won "Coolest App," much to our surprise. It was a truly overwhelming experience. Now I'm off to make some truly cracked out cartoons with my new found knowledge.
