ocupado

Dayam, I have been neglecting this blog of mine. Just been very occupied with work, life, and saving the world. So here's a few illos from a children's book I've been working on to prove that I haven't just been sitting on my ass in some dark room somewhere cradling my PS2 in my arms.

comic-con flicks

So it's two months after the fact, but hey, better late than freaking never. I've been wrapped up with quite a few projects since then, so this site has been a bit neglected. Anyhoo, it was another great year and busier than ever. The consensus from most of the artists I knew was that we all didn't realize how much more people would flood through the doors than previous years.

Setting up for preview night. In 4 years of showing at the con, this was the first time we made in this early.

Outside the convention center it was a mass exodus to get the hell out of there.

Jenn spots her first celebrity of the con, David Arquette.

The almighty Joss Whedon graces us with his presence and picks up a print! The fanboy in me passes out for the rest of the con.

My awesome neighbor for the past 3 years, Tim Wollweber.
Our good friend Garret Izumi representing Shortwave Productions and the pimp way of life.

This year's sketch theme was "dreaming."

I was commissioned by Snakebite (awesome freakin' name!) to draw on these shoes. I gotta do more shoes.

I'm usually apprehensive of sketching people's likeness, especially when they're standing right in front of you. But I think these came out pretty cool.

The rest of the flicks from the con can be found here. And while you're online, check out some awesome art from a few artists I was lucky to meet this year, as well as the usual cast of folks who I've had the pleaure of exhibiting with these past few years.

aloha comic-con!

Comic-Con is a week away and I'm just about to wrap up the finishing touches on all the goodness I'll be exhibiting this year. Above is a sample of the artwork I'll be showcasing at the con. I'll have it on T-shirts and posters. So come on by to the OneSickIndividual table (D6) if you plan on attending. Hope to see ya there!

illustration friday: dance

Here's a page from a comic I did a few years back. Thought it fit nicely with this week's topic. My last post would've fit nicely as well, just my luck I was a week early. Won't have much time to make anything new for illFriday in the next few weeks. On top of current projects, I'm hard at work trying to wrap up things for this year's San Diego Comic-Con. So if you plan on attending, come on by to the OneSickIndividual table (D6) and buy lot's of stuff! I'll be posting some teasers real soon.

show some love

For those of you in the San Francisco Bay Area, Upakan Bara-Bara, my filipino martial-arts team, is throwing a party to help raise funds to send them to this year's WEKAF World Stick Fighting Championships in Orlando. The event will be held at Bambuddha Lounge in San Francisco on Friday, June 16. So if you're in the area and in need to get drunk and dance your ass-off, come on out and show some love. Here's a flyer I put together for the function, check it out for more info.

talking heads

These are just a few character models I've been working on for a recent client. It's been great having the freedom to go off and create whatever comes to mind. I've just barely scratched the surface of the infinte amount of possibilities that could come out of this. They've even asked me to go as off the wall as I can. It's going to be a fun on-going project.

Anyhoo, it's been close to a month since Jenn and I got married and it still trips me out to call her my wife. I have a wife. Me. Me who still has to check out what's new in the toy section at Target and who just bought 4 cartons of ice cream in a weeks time. Trippy. But hey, I draw cartoons for a living. So life is just peachy.

illustration friday: speed

It's shaping up to be an awesome year in mainstream comics. Marvel is about to drop Civil War, while DC is wrapping up Infinite Crisis to be followed by 52. The fanboy in me just creamed his pants. Since I've missed the past month or so of illFriday topics reading comic books, thought I'd do something with capes and tights. And surprisingly, no breasts. It's a scene where Superboy-Prime just slaughtered a bunch of Titans and the Flashes rush in to the rescue.

just in time

It is now two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 a.m., making it 01:02:03 04/05/06. Woo hoo. Can't wait to tell the grandkids all about it someday, in my underwear, and in front of their friends.

spring cleaning

Got a bit of spring cleaning to do. And this is just my "virtual" destop. I think I'll wait till the gray wallpaper completetly disappears.

Here's a sketch for a client that didn't get used. I've finally gotten comfortable sketching straight into illustrator. It not only saves time, but it also saves money on paper. A handy tip for all you broke-ass freelancers such as myself.
And here's a clip showing why Scrubs freakin' rocks! (Right on for the link, Mye and Ron) Now if you will excuse me, a new epsiode is on.

brand spanking new

Finally home after an over-extended vacation to the Bay, Las vegas, and LA. It's downtime for me, once again, so I picked up this nifty new sketchbook with equally nifty new markers.

spank!

Our one week excursion home for our wedding shower is slowing turning into a two week fiesta. I've been able to knock out a few sketches between all the eating that's been going on around here. No complaints from me. So here's a selection of noodles for your viewing pleasure.

I was also able to finally watch Corpse Bride. There's just something about stop-motion animation. It gives you this unique sense and feeling of being in the scene instead of just watching. You can see and feel every "real" texture. Cool story, sweet animation, and the design of it all rocked! But if you really think about it, that would be some effed-up shit if that all happened in real life. A dead chick rising from the ground, whaling "I doooooo!" Not cool.

woo hoo!

Finally wrapped up this fatty project of mine. It was by far the most enjoyable, yet challenging, freelance project I've had in a very long time. I was pretty much left alone to freely create whatever craziness I had in my head. It was awesome. To reward myself for a job well done, I'm back on the box with my newest addiction. Nothing like unwinding with a shotgun and/or rocket launcher.

illustration friday: tea

A Long Island Iced Tea, that is. Weapon of choice for those of us who wish to get faded with the quickness. Though the feeling of invincibility after the third one rocks, the feeling of waking up face-down on the front lawn doesn't rock.

girl that is super

It's been awhile since I've drawn a "Super." So when Tom, over at Blueone, asked to see more super heroes, I jumped at the chance. I just needed a break away from my projects and my powerbook. I've always drawn Supergirl in her white top/blue skirt Superman Animated incarnation. So I thought I'd try out her most recent fit. And no, I don't mean I actually put on her costume and modeled it in front of a mirror. Or do I?

I've also finally gotten around to an idea for a banner and background for Jenn's blog, based off of my own. I think our blogs make a nice pair.

And in honor of Presidents Day, here's a few words of wisdom from our Commander in Chief.
